Hooray for Harkin

Okay, I am not always a fan of Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa, I probably sided more with Grassley when they were on opposite sides on an issue, but I applaud Sen. Harkin for his efforts to reform gov't funded Section 8 housing rules. Sen. Harkin is trying to get the rules changed for gov't subsidized housing after numerous reports of college students living in these government subsidized units. Particularly bad was a report that the son of University of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz was living in government subsidized low income housing while he is on a football scholarship and dear ol Dad rakes in probably a million plus a year. The fact that there has not been more of an outcry shows how reluctant Hawkeye fans are to criticize one of their own.

Hawkeye nation doesn't believe in much self criticism. Pierre Pierce was sentenced today to 2 years in prison. Local Tv interviewed some Iowa students, and even though Pierce was done playing there anyway, many of them didn't think he deserved any jail time at all. He can appeal, but his court appointed lawyer has advised him not to bother.
